| I am Manfred Freitag and I was born near Munich in 1924. I have had a happy childhood living and working on my Father's farm. Whatever has been happening in the rest of Germany, my Father always made sure that me and the rest of my family had plenty to eat. In 1933 we hear on the radio that Adolf Hitler has been elected Chancellor of Germany. He is an old soldier from the Great War, as was my Father. It is a very popular win and Hitler promises he will sort out both unemployment and the Jews! I don't know what the problem is with the Jews; I often come across the Jews when I am in town and I have Jewish friends at school. |
