Judaism is a religion of the Middle East and was started over 4000 years ago when Abraham, 'the father of the Jews,' left Ur to settle in Canaan [modern Israel]. The story of how his descendants established themselves as the nation of Israel is described in the Tenakh, their holy book, which also contains the Torah. In Yr 8 we will see how, in the last century, Jews were the victims of the worst persecution in the world's history- the Holocaust. We will also examine the Jewish way of life and the different types of Judaism, including Orthodox and Liberal and Reform Judaism.
